Washington, DC- Today, Congresswoman Schakowsky released the following statement after voting no on the 21st Century Cures Act:
“I am a strong supporter of biomedical research. I voted in favor of the 21st Century Cures bill when it came up in the Energy and Commerce Committee and then again the last time we voted on it on the House floor. The bill before us today is a different matter.

“By nominating Representative Tom Price for Secretary of Health and Human Services, president-elect Trump has chosen someone with a clear record of opposition to expanding access to affordable health care. Today, after joining 168 of her colleagues in a letter asking President-elect Donald Trump to take back his appointment of Steven Bannon as Chief White House Strategist:
"Following up on my statement from yesterday, I joined over 160 of my colleagues today in signing a letter to President-elect Donald Trump asking him to reverse his decision to appoint Stephen Bannon as White House Chief Strategist. Donald Trump cannot become a President for all Americans unless he repudiates the anti-Semitism and hatred that Bannon and his alt-right news outlet represent."
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Kristi Noem (R-SD) today led the House in passing H.R.5332, the Women, Peace, and Security Act. This bipartisan legislation would require the U.S. to develop a comprehensive strategy to increase and strengthen women’s participation in peace negotiations and conflict prevention globally as well as ensure accountability to Congress.

Veterans and their families have won our gratitude for the sacrifices they have made to protect the well-being and security of our country.
Washington, D.C. Today, ten women members of the House of Representatives congratulated the people of Maine and Flagstaff, Arizona for supporting initiatives that eliminate the lower wage for tipped workers. The federal tipped wage today is $2.13 an hour, a level that has not changed since 1991. According to a recent study by Washington Center for Equitable Growth, tipped workers who rely on customer tips not only earn less but are twice as likely to experience sexual harassment as workers in states that have eliminated the subminimum wage.
CHICAGO – November 3, 2016: Late last night in Cleveland, Ohio, the Chicago Cubs in a heart-stopping thriller beat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 and won the franchise’s first World Series in 108 years. Congresswoman Schakowsky released the following statement:
