Chicago, IL (March 23, 2012) -Today U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Representative Danny Davis (D-IL) joined doctors and individuals who have been helped by the new health care law at the Thompson Center to discuss the benefits of the Affordable Care Act on the 2nd anniversary of its passage into law.

Washington, DC (March 20, 2012) - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement in response to the Republican budget plan proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI):

"Budgets are about priorities — and the Ryan budget is further evidence that the Republicans will do anything to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires, protect the big oil industry and subsidize companies that send jobs overseas. We know who wins in the Republican budget — the richest 1 percent. And we know who loses — seniors, the middle-class, and low-income families struggling to succeed.

WASHINGTON, DC (March 12, 2012) — Today Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and 93 fellow House members sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to raise the alarm over human rights violations in Honduras where human rights defenders, journalists, community leaders and opposition activists are subject to death threats, attacks and extrajudicial executions. Today also marks the 18^th fatal attack on a member of the news media in the past two years after a Honduran journalist was killed by an unknown attacker wielding a machete.

Many people have said that budgets are moral documents. The choices that a family, a business, or a government make when crafting a budget say everything about where their priorities lie.

As a federal government, we face substantial short- and long-term deficit challenges that we have to address while simultaneously constructing a strong foundation for a bright economic future for our country.
