I want to express my support for H.R. 3801, The Ultralight Aircraft Smuggling Prevention Act of 2012, and also my strong admiration of its sponsor, my colleague and friend Gabrielle Giffords.
People who need or prefer to get information about Medicare in different formats other than written text now have a new resource thanks to an idea that started with a local group of professionals who are deaf or work with the deaf community.

Washington, DC (January 20, 2012) - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement today in response to a final rule issued by the Department of Health and Human Services on preventive health services to "ensure that women with health insurance coverage will have access to the full range of the Institute of Medicine's recommended preventive services, including all FDA -approved forms of contraception" under the Affordable Care Act.
"Today, the Obama Administration announced the final rule requiring insurance coverage for the full range of FDA-approved contraceptives without charging a co-pay, co-insurance, or a deductible.

Ridgewood High School Creates Jobs & Saves Tens of Thousands in Energy Costs
NORRIDGE, IL (December 20, 2011) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) visited Ridgewood High School yesterday to talk with students about the importance of civic engagement and tour the soundproofing renovations designed to mitigate the noise from nearby O'Hare International Airport. In addition, the renovations are expected to reduce the school's energy costs by 25%. Schakowsky helped secure the funding for the project.
