Jan Schakowsky (IL-9) released the following statement in response to President Barak Obama's designation of October, 11, 2010 as General Pulaski Memorial Day. It is a tribute to General Casimir Pulaski, the Revolutionary War hero, on the anniversary of his death. Illinois observes the first Monday in March as Casimir Pulaski Day.

Chicago, IL (October 6, 2010) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) celebrated the grand opening of a new, cutting edge police headquarters in Skokie on Sunday, which was possible, in part, thanks to a $465,000 grant secured by the Congresswoman in the FY 2010 Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriation Bill. The Skokie Police Department will move into its new headquarters at 7300 Niles Center Road in late October.

"I strongly condemn the vandalization of Temple Menorah that was discovered early this morning. The news is particularly shocking and painful to me because Temple Menorah is the synagogue where I worshiped with my family growing up in Rogers Park.
