WASHINGTON, DC (June 24, 2010) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) submitted the following statement in support of the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act, which she cosponsored.

Madam Speaker, I rise today in support of the conference report on H.R. 2194, the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act.

I would like to thank Chairman Berman for introducing this legislation, of which I am a cosponsor, and for his tireless work in support of halting Iranian aggression.

It is the companion resolution to H. Res. 1342 , the Seniors Bill of Rights introduced in May by Rep. Schakowsky, Co-Chair of the Seniors Task Force and co-sponsored by Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA), Co-Chair of the Seniors Task Force. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) co-sponsored the Senate resolution.

WASHINGTON, DC — (June 10, 2010) Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued the following statement today:

"I congratulate the Chicago Blackhawks on winning the 2010 Stanley Cup.  After an incredible season, no team is more deserving.

"The Blackhawks lightening-fast pace and tremendous skill level delivered the team the second-best league record in the regular season.  Coach Joel Quenneville guided his team masterfully through the playoffs, where the Blackhawks defeated the Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks, and San Jose Sharks to win the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl as Western Conference champions.

WASHINGTON, DC — (June 7, 2010) Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) participated in a field hearing today in Chalmette, Louisiana on the "Local Impact of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.... The hearing was held by the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. Witnesses include family members of workers killed in the oil rig explosion and local business owners. Rep. Schakowsky and Reps. Bart Stupak, Bruce Braley and Donna Christensen also went on a Coast Guard flyover of the effected areas.

"I deeply regret the loss of life that occurred aboard one of the ships in the Gaza-bound flotilla last week. This particular incident requires a thorough and transparent investigation and I look forward to learning all the facts. The greater issue at hand is how we guarantee Israel's security by stopping rocket attacks and preventing arms and weapons materials from reaching Hamas in Gaza while simultaneously allowing passage of humanitarian aid for those living in Gaza.
