WASHINGTON, DC (January 15, 2010) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, released the following statement responding to the Department of Housing and Urban Development's announcement of $2 billion in grants under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. The City of Chicago will receive $98 million and the city of Evanston will receive $18 million under the current round of grants, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

"We should all be concerned if the allegations that have been reported in the press about Blackwater are correct. It is a serious matter and demands accountability.

Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, passed legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives today that will protect seniors from the deceitful tactics by increasing the authority of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency to investigate and prosecute these con artists.

Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, released the following statement following the announcement by the Department of Homeland Security that Rigo Padilla will be permitted to stay in the United States on a year-to-year basis and will be provided with a work permit. Last week she introduced a private bill in the U.S. House on behalf of Mr. Padilla that is credited as the reason DHS stayed the deportation.

Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, released the following statement in response to a voluntary recall of more than 2.1 million cribs ordered by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves approximately 1,213,000 units distributed in the United States and 968,000 units distributed in Canada. Rep.
