WASHINGTON, DC (October 21, 2009) — In a major step toward improving public health and curbing the severe risks of toxic Mercury pollution, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, passed legislation today through the Energy & Commerce Committee that forbids the use of mercury-cell technology in the production of chlorine within 5 years of enactment.

Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, passed legislation through the House Energy & Commerce Committee that would prevent excessive annual premium increases while reducing health care costs for families and small businesses. The Schakowsky Amendment will limit annual increases in premiums for Exchange-participating plans to 150 percent of medical inflation.
