SCHAKOWSKY PRESSES FOR
IMPROVED CAR SAFETY STANDARDS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today continued to press for improved safety standards in cars to ensure that consumers, especially children, are protected. Schakowsky, who is the ranking Democrat on the Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee, issued the following statement during a hearing on the reauthorization of the National Highway and Transportation Safety Act:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued today's "Bush Administration's Misstatement of the Day" on Iraq.
In a speech defending pre-war intelligence at Georgetown University and the failure to find weapons of mass destruction, Central Intelligence Agency Director George Tenet announced that his analysts never claimed that "Iraq posed an imminent threat."

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today opposed the latest effort by the Republican Congress to strip away consumers' rights. Schakowsky voted against the so-called Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act, a bill that would shield food manufacturers and sellers from "frivolous" lawsuits, while denying consumers their Constitutional right to seek legal recourse.
