WOMEN IN ILLINOIS EARN 72 CENTS FOR EVERY DOLLAR MEN EARN
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) joined House Democratic women to call for an end to the pay inequity that still exists in the workplace today. Schakowsky and her colleagues demanded that the Republican Leadership holds hearings on this issue and bring to the floor legislation that would eliminate the wage gap between men and women.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) introduced legislation to ensure that online consumers have access to the same basic service from their email providers that they have from their phone company or local post office.
"If you move your home or business, the post office will forward your mail. If your phone number changes, the company will give your callers the new number. Why should it be any different when you're ready to change your e-mail address?" Schakowsky asked.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Banking Committee today held a hearing on predatory lending practices. Federal officials, consumer advocates, and victims testified during today's hearing. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a member of the Committee and author of H.R. 3901, the Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2000, made the following statement.
HOUSE APPROVES SCHAKOWSKY REQUEST FOR KEY TRANSPORTATION PROJECT IN CHICAGO
$100,000 TO DEVELOP PLAN FOR "WALKABLE EDGEWATER INITIATIVE" INCLUDED IN TRANSPORTATION APPROPRIATION BILL
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today announced that the House approved her funding request of a key transportation project in Chicago. Schakowsky said that $100,000 to begin to develop plans for the Walkable Edgewater Initiative was included in the Transportation Appropriations bill for FY 2001. The Senate has not acted on its version of the bill.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - While I am not proud about the gender disparity of wages in the United States, I am proud today to join with my colleagues as a cosponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act.
It is unbelievable that women still earn only a percentage of what men earn for comparable work. In the 21st century, women earn 72 cents for every dollar a man earns. In communities of color, the gap is wider: black women earn 64 cents for each dollar and Latinas earn only 55 cents for each dollar a man earns.
