WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, voted for H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act, a comprehensive forward-thinking package which invests $1.5 trillion to rebuild our nation's infrastructure while creating millions of good-paying jobs, tackling our global climate crisis and addressing disparities throughout the country. WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, made the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4447, Clean Energy Jobs and Innovation Act, by a vote of 220-185:

"While H.R. 4447 alone doesn't meet the scale of investment needed to fully confront the climate crisis, the Clean Energy Jobs and Innovation Act makes needed reforms to update U.S. energy policy and authorizes major investments in the transition to a low-carbon future.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Earth Day, marks the first anniversary of the Protect Our Public Lands Act (POPLA), federal legislation introduced by Reps. Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) that would ban fracking on all public lands. In the past year the bill has gained strong momentum, picking up 37 House cosponsors.

Today, our nation faces unprecedented environmental and energy challenges. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I am committed to promoting sustainable and renewable clean energy development, achieving energy independence through use of sustainable 21st-century technologies and increasing energy efficiency. I am also a strong environmentalist and believe we have a special responsibility to protect natural resources and species, national parks and wilderness areas and the future of our planet.

When President Joe Biden signed into law the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act last November, he unleashed unprecedented actions to revitalize the crumbing physical foundation of the United States from top to bottom.

Last year, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave the United States' overall infrastructure a rating of C-minus, saying "This is not a report card anyone could be proud of." The $1.2 trillion investment will modernize our infrastructure across the board: sea, land, air.
