Schakowsky Reappointed Chair of Consumer Protection Subcommittee
EVANSTON – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement on her reappointment as Chairwoman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee:
“I’m honored to have been selected by my colleagues to serve a second term as chair the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee. Consumer protection is what drew me to public life, and I will continue to focus on the safety of products our families, especially our children, use every day.
“The focus of the Subcommittee are ones that impact Americans’ everyday lives: product safety, data privacy and security, and auto safety. In the last Congress, we had many successes to improve these areas, including protecting consumers from COVID-19 related scams, increasing enforcement by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and directing the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Commerce to more closely study and monitor emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, unmanned delivery services, and 3D printing. It is our job to ensure the 21st century regulatory infrastructure works for all Americans, whether online, on the road, or in our homes.
“I am excited to work with my colleagues on the subcommittee and Chairman Pallone as we partner with the incoming Biden-Harris Administration and the new Senate majority to prioritize American consumer safety over the profits of corporations.”
