Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement today after House Republicans released a last-minute Manager's Amendment to their health care bill that repeals the Affordable Care Act:
"House Republicans have really outdone themselves this time. They have managed to make their already awful healthcare repeal bill even worse.”
Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after voting against the Republican bill to rip apart our health care system in the House Budget Committee:
“The Republican disaster known as the ‘American Health Care Act’ just barely passed the House Budget Committee. I opposed the measure. This bill would give a $600 billion tax cut to the ultra-wealthy and the corporations they run, and take away health care from 24 million hard-working Americans in the next ten years. The hardest hit by this GOP plot would be women, older Americans, children, and people with disabilities.
Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement on President Trump’s FY18 budget, also known as the “skinny” budget:
“The President’s FY18 budget belongs in the recycle bin next to his Muslim Bans.
“It has been said that the definition of insanity is trying the same thing again and again expecting a different result” said Rep. Schakowsky. “President Trump’s Muslim Ban 2.0 is just as immoral, unconstitutional and dangerous to our national security as his first. So, naturally, it has been put on hold by a federal court, just like the President's first attempt to ban Muslims and refugees. I am glad that the hold was placed on this executive order, and am proud that Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan supported Hawaii’s case. I will continue to fight against this dangerous order until it is completely revoked.”
Washington, D.C.– Four Energy and Commerce Committee Democratic leaders today requested answers from the National Football League (NFL) and the U.S.
Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report outlining exactly how disastrous the Republican bill would be for the American people:
Representative Jan Schakowsky issued the following statement after the Energy and Commerce Committee passed the American Health Care Act in a party-line vote following a 27-hour markup:
Citing new evidence that many profitable corporations evade paying any U.S. income taxes, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) Thursday introduced a bill to eliminate tax breaks that encourage corporations to shift jobs and profits offshore. Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) introduced a companion bill in the House.
In addition to closing loopholes, the Corporate Tax Dodging Prevention Act would tax the $2.4 trillion that American corporations currently hold offshore at the full corporate tax rate of 35 percent.
