“I’m pleased that President Obama requested a review of the National Security Agency’s practices and that we now have the recommendations from the advisory panel. This gives us the opportunity to have a robust debate and to make the positive changes needed to ensure that we protect individual privacy and national security concerns in a more balanced way.

“Last week I signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 3361, the USA Freedom Act, a bipartisan piece of legislation, which contains provisions similar to those offered by President Obama’s advisory panel.”

As a longtime-opponent of both the USA Patriot Act and the FISA Amendments Act, I believe that the USA Freedom Act strikes a better balance between protecting our national security and safeguarding the civil liberties that we, as Americans, hold dear.

“According to new data released today by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, seniors and persons with disabilities in Illinois saved $333 million on their prescription drug costs, since Obamacare was enacted in 2010. By closing the gap in prescription drug coverage known as the donut hole, we are making access to prescription drugs more affordable –ensuring that seniors and people with disabilities can afford to get the medications they need. And every year, those savings will grow.
