Proposal Includes Rep. Schakowsky's Emergency Jobs to Restore the American Dream Act & Fairness in Taxation Provisions

Washington, DC (December 10, 2011) -- U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement today in response to a payroll tax proposal introduced by Speaker John Boehner:

"The proposal released by the Republican leadership is just one more piece of evidence that they are more interested in protecting the 1% than addressing the needs of the 99%.

They refuse to ask millionaires or billionaires to pay a single penny more in taxes, but they don't have any difficulty asking middle-class seniors to pay more each month for their Medicare benefits.

WASHINGTON, DC (December 5, 2011) — Today Reps. Jan Schakowsky, Mike Quigley and 106 of their House colleagues sent a letter to House Appropriations Chair Harold Rogers and Ranking Member Norm Dicks urging them to reject any language jeopardizing women's health in upcoming federal funding legislation. The Appropriations Committee is working on legislation to extend federal funding for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Shopping Tips, Mobile Website Can Help Parents Shop Safe

(Chicago, November 22, 2011) —Dangerous or toxic toys can still be found on America's store shelves, according to Illinois Public Interest Research Group's 26th annual Trouble in Toyland report.

This morning Illinois PIRG, joined by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Kids in Danger, released the report at Children's Memorial Hospital. It reveals the results of laboratory testing on toys for lead and phthalates, both of which have been proven to have serious adverse health impacts on the development of young children. The survey also found toys that pose either choking or noise hazards.

Over $200,000 for the Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern Suburbs
