Washington, D.C. – Today, House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial and Administrative Law Chairman David N. Cicilline (D-RI), Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) introduced the COVID-19 Price Gouging Prevention Act to protect American consumers from price gouging during the COVID-19 pandemic.

EVANSTON, IL - Today, Congresswoman Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, Congressman Jared Huffman (CA-02), and Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services urging the agency to prioritize science and public health by waiving the restrictions on research with human fetal tissue, which are preventing federally-funded scientists from advancing important studies to potentially prevent, treat, or cure the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

WASHINGTON, DC - On Monday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released guidance that contradicts provisions of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that explicitly gives the Department of the Treasury authority to provide direct assistance to Social Security beneficiaries, Supplemental Security Income recipients, and Veterans Administration pension holders who do not file taxes.

EVANSTON, IL – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced today that language from her legislation, H.R. 2150, the Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act of 2019, was signed into law on Friday, March 27, 2020 as part of H.R. 748, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. The legislation was originally introduced on April 9, 2019, with original cosponsors Reps. Buddy Carter (R-GA), Ron Kind (D-WI), Mike Kelly (R-PA), Susan Wild (D-PA), and David Joyce (R-OH).

EVANSTON, IL – Today, on the 10th Anniversary of the landmark Affordable Care Act (ACA) being signed into law, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, led 127 of her Democratic colleagues in sending a letter to President Trump calling on him to end the lawsuit that seeks to end the ACA. Specifically, it asks the President to order the Department of Justice to drop their support of the GOP's lawsuit to strike down the ACA, to urge the plaintiffs to drop their case, and to protect the health care of all Americans during this global health crisis.
