WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) green-lighted a study by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to reexamine the current metric used to determine acceptable aircraft noise pollution. Rep. Jan Schakowsky has been a leader in the effort to get the FAA to review the current 65 decibel Day-Night Average Sound Level (DNL) metric.

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those who were killed, injured, left homeless or lost loved ones as a result of the horrific earthquake in Nepal. Whenever these natural disasters strike, we are reminded that we are a global community and we must stand with each other in times of great need. The United States stands ready to help with aid and other resources as the people of Nepal and the region recover.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 24, 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Rep. Jan Schakowsky issued the following statement on this horrific event:

“April 24, 1915 marked the beginning of the Armenian Genocide. By 1923, more than 1.5 million lives were lost at the hands of the Ottoman Empire. A century later, we remember and honor the lives of those who were lost.

Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Ted Deutch (FL-21) joined Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Robert Dold, Eliot Engel and Steven Chabot to introduce a resolution condemning the Iranian government’s persecution of the Baha’i minority. WASHINGTON, DC– Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Rep. Dan Lipinski released the following statement after sending a letter to President Obama outlining several significant concerns about the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The United States and the European Union (EU) are currently negotiating TTIP.

In their letter, Schakowsky and Lipinski, along with 29 other Representatives, outline several major concerns regarding reports on the ongoing TTIP negotiations and urge the President to take steps to correct the following problems:

“I am pleased to join Representatives Guinta, Lujan Grisham and Buchanan in reintroducing the SAFE Act (H.R. 1942). This critically important legislation would help us end the horrific practice of horse slaughter once and for all.

I want to thank the animal welfare organizations that have been so engaged on this issue, including the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) for their tireless efforts to combat this slaughter.

The legislation is the strongest anti-fracking bill introduced in Congress to date and would ban fracking on public lands.
