SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION MISSTATEMENT OF THE DAY -
PRIVATE MILITARY
CONTRACTORS IN IRAQ

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued "The Bush Administration Misstatement of the Day" on private military contractors operating in Iraq.

The New York Times reported today that many private military contractors hired by the United States military to conduct "tactical, operational and strategic interrogations" in Iraq "are now carrying out highly sensitive duties" without the proper background checks or security clearance.

Because in this Administration, truth is in such short supply, it is imperative to have an independent commission investigation - a Truth Commission - to reveal the truth about how regime change was accomplished in Haiti. I fully support Rep. Barbara Lee's Resolution calling for a Truth Commission.

SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION MISSTATEMENT OF THE DAY - THE COST OF WAR IN IRAQ

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued "The Bush Administration Misstatement of the Day" on the cost of war in Iraq.

According to news reports today, the Bush administration "will ask Congress for an additional $25 billion for U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, Republican congressional aides said Wednesday, a change from the White House's earlier plans to not request such money until after the November elections."
