SCHAKOWSKY, WOMEN MEMBERS OF CONGRESS JOIN PRESIDENT ATROSE GARDEN TO CALL ON CONGRESS TO PASS GUN SAFETY BILLS

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today participated in a Rose Garden news conference with President Clinton and a bipartisan group of women House members to call on Congress to pass gun safety measures.

The measures include the sale of child-safety locks with each handgun, instant background checks at gun shows, and the importation ban of ammunition magazines with a capacity of ten or more rounds of ammunitions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and the American
Legion Auxiliary Unit #473 presented a U.S. flag to immigrants and refugees learning U.S.
civics and history at the Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA).

The flag donation was made during an official ceremony held on Flag Day, June 14, 1999.

SCHAKOWSKY HAILS DEMOCRATIC HOMEOWNERSHIP LEGISLATIVE AGENDA

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today hailed the Democratic homeownership legislative agenda. The agenda was unveiled during a news conference attended by Democratic members of the Banking Committee, lawmakers, and consumer and community groups.

Schakowsky, a member of the Housing and Community Opportunity Banking Subcommittee, said, "The Democrats are committed to helping those who wish to own their own home and have a piece of the American Dream."

SCHAKOWSKY, SANDERS RELEASE LETTER CALLING ON PRESIDENT TO HOLD FIRM IN PROTECTING MEDICARELETTER SIGNED BY MORE THAN 110 HOUSE MEMBERS

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representatives Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today released a letter signed by more than 110 members of Congress calling on the President to protect the interests of the 39 million seniors and persons with disabilities who rely on Medicare.

The letter calls on the President to reject the disastrous proposals that were nearly approved by the Bipartisan Commission on Medicare as the Administration develops its own plan to save Medicare.
