Parents have an expectation that the products they purchase around their home and for their children are safe, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. Last year, 100 children’s products were recalled, the highest number since 2013.

As the Ranking Member of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over consumer protection issues, I will continue fighting to keep dangerous products, like water beads and button batteries, out of kids' hands.

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03), reintroduced the FTC Whistleblower Act of 2024. The bill protects whistleblowers who disclose wrongdoing at their current or former employers who fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Disclosure could include unlawful violations of consumer protection or anti-trust laws and regulations. This act would protect whistleblowers from retaliation and incentivize their reporting.
