Consumer Protection
I was happy to join Congressman Cardenas in introducing the Consumer Protection and Recovery Act after the Supreme Court took away the Federal Trade Commission's ability to recover funds for defrauded consumers. This week, we passed this bill to restore that ability and help make sure consumers are protected and can be made whole if they become victims.
To combat organized retail theft, and protect consumers from dangerous and counterfeit products, I've introduced the INFORM Consumers Act to make online marketplaces like Facebook and Amazon accountable and responsible for the goods sold on their platforms. The bill has been approved by the @Energy and Commerce Committee and now goes to the House floor.
The Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce of the Committee on Energy and Commerce held a remote hearing on Thursday, September 24, 2020. The hearing is entitled, "Mainstreaming Extremism: Social Media's Role in Radicalizing America."
