WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement upon passage of H.R. 1808, the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022, which would again ban the sale, transfer, manufacture, and importation of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines – removing these weapons of war from the hands of civilians.

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09), Congressman Sean Casten (D-IL-06), and Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA-08) introduced bicameral legislation to provide the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) with additional authority to protect consumers from the harm caused by traders that repeatedly manipulate electricity and natural gas markets. The Energy Consumer Protection Act is being introduced in the Senate by U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA).

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09) celebrated the Senate introduction of the Abortion is Health Care Everywhere Act. Schakowsky has already introduced H.R. 1670, the House companion bill, which now has 180 cosponsors. The Senate bill, which U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced today, would repeal the 1973 Helms Amendment to the U.S. Foreign Assistance Act. This would ensure that U.S. foreign assistance may be used to provide the full scope of comprehensive health care, including access to safe and legal abortion services.
