WASHINGTON - U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Sean Casten (IL-06), and Jerrold Nadler (NY-12) led 72 House Democrats in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi demanding the Department of Justice (DOJ) fully enforce the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act and ensure women and health care providers are not threatened, harassed, or abused while trying to enter reproductive health care facilities.

“Tonight, President Donald Trump spent nearly two hours lying to the American public. I found this speech insulting and disrespectful to millions, including myself. Trump is not doing anything to help working people. What ever happened to his promise to lower costs? He wants to gut health care and take food out of the mouths of poor children to give $4.5 trillion in tax cuts to his billionaire supporters.

WASHINGTON - As Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress attempt to advance legislation to give massive tax breaks to billionaires and undermine Social Security, Reps. Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the House Democratic Caucus Task Force on Aging and Families, and Val Hoyle (OR-04), along with Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), introduced the Social Security Expansion Act. The legislation would expand Social Security benefits by $2,400 a year and ensure Social Security is fully funded for the next 75 years by applying the Social Security payroll tax on all income above $250,000. Importantly, this legislation would not raise taxes by one penny on the over 91 percent of American households who make $250,000 or less.

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-16) introduced legislation to permanently ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption, the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act. The bill would also prohibit the export of live horses to Mexican and Canadian slaughterhouses to be sold overseas. Companion legislation is being introduced in the Senate by Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

WASHINGTON - Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Ranking Member Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Chairman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) re-introduced the TICKET Act, bipartisan legislation to improve transparency in the entertainment industry by requiring all event ticket sellers to display the total ticket price—including all required fees—upfront, provide refunds for canceled or postponed events, and protect consumers from deceptive ticketing websites.

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Jared Huffman (CA-02), and Jamie Raskin (MD-08) led 42 colleagues in a letter to President Donald Trump requesting that he immediately withdraw his recent executive order which directs the U.S. Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Bureau of Indian Education, and the Department of Defense to prioritize funding for private and charter schools, including faith-based institutions, via ‘voucher’ programs.
