WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Anna G. Eshoo (CA-16) and U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced the Banning Surveillance Advertising Act, legislation that prohibits advertising networks and facilitators from using personal data to target advertisements. The bill also prohibits advertisers from targeting ads based on protected class information such as race, gender, and religion, and personal data purchased from data brokers. The bill allows targeting based on broad location connected to a recognizable place, such as a municipality, and explicitly allows contextual advertising, which is advertising based on the content a user is engaging with.

Grijalva (AZ-07) led 16 of their colleagues in a letter urging United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken to ensure that the U.S. Embassy in Honduras is continually engaging the Honduran government to combat corruption while protecting the environmentalists in the Bajo Aguan region from future violence and attacks, and ensuring that their demands are fully and fairly attended to. WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) introduced the Working for Immigrant Safety and Empowerment (WISE) Act to protect immigrant survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and gender-based violence. The bill would ensure that immigrants have access to protections intended by the bipartisan Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Trafficking Victim Protection Act (TVPA), and other federal and state laws. The bill would also ensure survivors pursuing relief are not detained or deported before their applications are fully adjudicated.
