WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, and Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. today announced the introduction of H.R. 2781, the Educating Medical Professionals and Optimizing Workforce Efficiency and Readiness (EMPOWER) for Health Actof 2019. This legislation is designed to increase access to health care in underserved areas and diversify the health care providers to meet the needs of different populations. It will reauthorize the Title VII health professions education and training programs from Fiscal Year 2020 through Fiscal Year 2024.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, honored participants in the Illinois 9th Congressional District's 2019 "An Artistic Discovery" Congressional Art Competition, and named the students who were chosen to receive the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes. This annual competition, sponsored by the Congressional Institute, invites young artists from around the nation to compose and submit visual art to their member of Congress. The winning piece from each District is then hung in the Cannon Tunnel, which lawmakers, staff, and tourists alike pass each day as they move between the House Office Buildings and the U.S. Capitol.
