Washington, DC- Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced major changes to the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) – also known as the five-star safety ratings system – set to debut in 2018. The updated analysis will include consideration of pedestrian and rear-seat passenger safety. Rep. Schakowsky released the following statement in response:

American consumers are sick and tired of pharmaceutical companies charging too much for prescription drugs, and American taxpayers are sick and tired of footing the bill for large corporations that dodge their fair tax share. Pfizer has combined the worst of both practices – this week announcing a proposed merger with Allergan designed to boost its profits while slashing its tax payments.

CHICAGO – Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement about the first-degree murder charge filed against Officer Jason Van Dyke:

“After more than a year of investigation, Officer Jason Van Dyke has been formally charged with the murder of Laquan McDonald. I strongly support that decision. Law enforcement officers are sworn to serve and protect. It is clear that in this case, that oath was violated. I believe that these charges are not only appropriate but necessary in order to ensure that justice is done.

"I am sickened to learn of the death of Massachusetts teenager Ezra Schwartz and four others who were senselessly murdered yesterday.
