CHICAGO – Yesterday, the National Labor Relations Board in the Browning-Ferris Industries case revised standards for determining joint-employer status. The Board found that Browning-Ferris Industries was a joint-employer of workers hired by a contractor to staff the company’s recycling center. The joint-employer designation gives workers stronger employment protections and enhanced collective bargaining rights with large corporationsthat play a role in determining salaries, working conditions, and hours. Rep. Jan Schakowsky issued the following statement in response:

CHICAGO – Rep. Jan Schakowsky issued the following statement on a new rule that the Environmental Protection Agency put out today to cut methane emissions from the oil and gas sector.
"I applaud the Obama Administration and the EPA for this common-sense proposed rule. There are steps we can take to reduce the harmful impacts of methane emissions, and this rule requires that those steps be taken by the oil and gas industries. Methane gas emissions contribute heavily to climate change and public health challenges, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
