CHICAGO- Representative Schakowsky released the following statement in response to the proposed Pfizer-Allergan merger:

American consumers are sick and tired of pharmaceutical companies charging too much for prescription drugs, and American taxpayers are sick and tired of footing the bill for large corporations that dodge their fair tax share. Pfizer has combined the worst of both practices – this week announcing a proposed merger with Allergan designed to boost its profits while slashing its tax payments.

CHICAGO – Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement about the first-degree murder charge filed against Officer Jason Van Dyke:

“After more than a year of investigation, Officer Jason Van Dyke has been formally charged with the murder of Laquan McDonald. I strongly support that decision. Law enforcement officers are sworn to serve and protect. It is clear that in this case, that oath was violated. I believe that these charges are not only appropriate but necessary in order to ensure that justice is done.

Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after Ezra Schwartz and four others were murdered yesterday:

"I am sickened to learn of the death of Massachusetts teenager Ezra Schwartz and four others who were senselessly murdered yesterday. Ezra is yet another innocent victim in this seemingly endless cycle of violence. As I continue to say, the only solution is to end incitement, and work toward a path for a two-state solution."

Washington, DC – Today members of the House Democratic Caucus joined public interest groups and progressive organizations to call on House Leadership to reject divisive policy riders in the FY 2016 Omnibus and to bring a clean spending bill to the floor.

More than 160 Members of Congress signed a letter to House Leadership calling on them to prevent another unnecessary government shutdown by rejecting poison-pill provisions and partisan brinksmanship.

“The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a challenge to Texas laws that restrict access to safe abortions – the most important case for women’s health and reproductive choice since Roe v. Wade. The stakes couldn’t be higher. Decades of advances in women’s health and women’s rights are on the line.
