SCHAKOWSKY STATEMENT ON THE APPROVAL OF $10.5 BILLION IN EMERGENCY SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR HURRICANE VICTIMS

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Democratic Whip, today released a statement on the approval of a $10.5 billion emergency supplemental appropriation for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The emergency supplemental passed the Senate yesterday, and will provide immediate funding for hurricane relief efforts.

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky today released a statement on the Iraqi constitution presented to the Iraqi National Assembly on Sunday. The Constitution includes a provision declaring Islam to be the official religion of the state and stipulates that no law passed can contradict the rules of Islam. The Constitution also will place experts in Sharia, such as Islamic clerics, on the Supreme Federal Court of Iraq.
