SCHAKOWSKY CALLS FOR ACTION ON DARFUR GENOCIDE
WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky joined other Members of Congress today at a press conference on Capitol Hill to condemn the genocide in Sudan and to urge Congress and the President to take action to restore security to the Darfur region. The event was sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus and Jewish Members of Congress, highlighting the shared concern of the African American and Jewish communities over the genocide in Sudan.
Representative Schakowsky's full remarks are below, as prepared for delivery:
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), whose district includes the City of Evanston and Northwestern University, today released a statement congratulating the Northwestern women's lacrosse team on their national championship. Representative Schakowsky joined the team this morning at a White House ceremony honoring NCAA champions. Later in the day, Representative Schakowsky was joined by Senators Durbin and Obama, and Representative Melissa Bean, to welcome the team to the U.S. Capitol.

STATEMENT FROM REPRESENTATIVE SCHAKOWSKY ON THE BOMBINGS IN LONDON
CHICAGO, IL -- "All people in the Chicago metropolitan area today are identifying with the people of London and are thinking about them as we get on busses and subways and El trains and our hearts go out to them. This tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for America and the President that we need to refocus our resources on our own homeland security infrastructure and redirect our efforts once again to the fighting the real perpetrators of international terror."

SCHAKOWSKY CALLS ON ROVE TO APOLOGIZE FOR OFFENSIVE COMMENTS
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky today joined over 50 Democratic Members of Congress in writing a letter urging White House political advisor Karl Rove to take back comments he made at a fundraiser yesterday in New York City. As reported by today's New York Times, Rove said Democrats "saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."
