Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, joined nearly 200 Representatives and Senators as plaintiffs in a lawsuit against President Donald Trump concerning his apparent violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause. After the lawsuit was filed, Rep. Schakowsky released the following statement:

“I am shocked and horrified by the events that took place this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Steve Scalise, the U.S. Capitol Police, the Congressional staffers present at this morning’s practice, and all those affected. I wish everyone injured a full and speedy recovery.”

On the one-year anniversary of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement:

"Today marks the one-year anniversary of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting. This mass shooting, the deadliest in American history, was a heinous and unspeakable act of terror. The fact that the shooter targeted LGBTQ individuals celebrating their identities during Pride Month only worsens the already incomprehensible evil that this attack represents.

Washington D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Schakowsky released the following statement after the Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously approved her amendment stating that Congress should “take administrative actions and enact legislative changes that will lower the cost of prescription drugs for consumers and reduce the burden of such cost on taxpayers”. The amendment was included in the FDA Reauthorization Act, also known as the User Fee Agreements.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09), along with every Democratic member of the Illinois Congressional delegation, once again called on Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner to explain how Republicans’ plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act will affect Illinois families, schools and students, health care providers, and the state’s economy. The members expressed concern that the Republican health care repeal bill—which passed the House without any hearings or analysis from the Congressional Budget Office—would rip health insurance away from more than one million people in the state of Illinois.
