Washington D.C. -Today, Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Subcommittee Ranking Member Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after the full Energy and Commerce Committee markup of the SAFE DRIVE Act:

“The bipartisan autonomous vehicle legislation reported by the Energy and Commerce Committee today was the result of months of discussion and weeks of intense negotiations. My goal throughout this process has been to make sure AV technology is deployed safely and that we also advance existing safety technologies.

Washington, D.C.-Today, House Democrats, led by the Seniors Task Force, the Democratic Women’s Working Group, and House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY), marked the 52nd anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid with an anniversary party in the U.S. Capitol. The Medicare and Medicaid programs were created on July 30th, 1965 when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Social Security Act into law. Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Congressman Ruben Gallego released the following statements ahead of the House vote on the first Appropriations package for FY18. The package, known as the “Security Minibus” is made up of the Defense, Military Construction & VA, Legislative Branch, and Energy & Water Appropriations bills. These bills include controversial and extreme policy riders, including funding for President Trump’s border wall. In June, Reps Schakowsky and Gallego led 180 House Democrats in writing a letter to House and Appropriations Committee leadership, urging them to exclude controversial policy provisions from the FY 2018 funding bills.
