CHICAGO - Trade representatives from twelve nations are meeting in Atlanta this week in an attempt to finalize the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, a trade agreement that would have profound consequences for workers, consumers, the environment and health care.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Last night, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz admitted on CNN’s Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer that there is no evidence that Planned Parenthood has broken any laws. Earlier in the week, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told Fox News that a primary motivation behind formation of the Select Committee on Benghazi was to damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

WASHINGTON D.C. - The Hyde amendment, included in annual federal appropriations bills, restricts access to abortions except in instances of rape, incest or where the life of the woman is threatened. The first time Congress included the language in annual spending bills was 39 years ago today.

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement in response to House Republican’s announcement of the creation of a select committee to investigate Planned Parenthood.

I thank His Holiness Pope Francis for sharing his vision for the world before a Joint Meeting of Congress. He called on us as legislators and as Americans to promote the common good and meet our common needs. His message was powerful – that we need to look out for each other and for the planet we all call home.

CHICAGO – Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky joined Katie Jordan, Secretary/Treasurer of the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA) and Charlie Hogan, a retiree and Illinois ARA member, in opposing a proposal to exempt the pharmaceutical industry from current patent review procedures.
