Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement in response to the Israeli Knesset’s consideration the “Nation-State Bill”

“I deeply cherish Israel’s Jewish and Democratic character, and I am proud to be a longtime supporter of the US-Israel relationship and our shared democratic values. The Nation-State bill currently being considered in the Knesset could significantly undermine the values that are the bedrock of our alliance.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), John Yarmuth (KY-03), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Mark Pocan (WI-02), David Price (NC-04), Peter Welch (VT-At Large), Barbara Lee (CA-13) and Keith Ellison (MN-05) released the following statement in opposition to the demolitions scheduled to take place in the Palestinian village of Khan Al-Ahmar:

On July 11^th, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, introduced H.Res 987, a resolution condemning Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ inhumane effort to deny asylum to victims of domestic violence.

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, led 131 of her Democratic Colleagues, including Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, on a letter opposing President Trump’s May 25 executive orders targeting federal workers. The Trump Administration is already taking action to undermine federal unions, eliminate longstanding protections, and undo existing contracts. In their letter, the members wrote:

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement in response to President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States:

"Every Fourth of July I march in as many parades as I can. I love every minute of it. The patriotism and pride, the recognition of our armed forces’ service, the families dressed in red, white, and blue honoring the country they love. Going from parade to parade I see the faces of the ninth district, one of the most beautifully diverse in the country, coming together despite cultural, racial, and religious differences to celebrate this holiday.

Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD), Rep. Brad Schneider, and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi joined leaders and members of public service unions including AFSCME, SEIU, AFGE, the Fire Fighters, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, the Illinois Education Association and others for a round table discussion and press conference on the repercussions of the anti-worker, anti-union Supreme Court decision in Janus v. AFSCME Council 31, and the importance of the labor movement’s role in lifting up all working people.

“This is a sad day for public employees and all of us who rely on them to provide us with the services we need, from keeping our air and water clean to teaching our children to protecting public health. Janus started with Governor Rauner but it was quickly embraced by all those whose mission is to take away the freedoms of working women and men.
