“I am very proud to join in celebrating the 70th anniversary of Israel’s Independence, Yom Ha’atzmaut – a celebration that represents the fulfillment of a centuries-long dream of the Jewish people.

“Israel was founded as a homeland and refuge for the Jewish people in the wake of one of history’s most haunting chapters. For seventy years it has been a beacon of hope and inspiration for the Jewish people. As we face a renewed threat of anti-Semitism at home and around the globe, the importance of Israel as a nation and a symbol endures.

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on Tax Day 2018 and the effects of the GOP Tax Scam:

“Millions of Americans sat down at their kitchen tables ahead of today’s IRS deadline to go over the family’s finances, and far too many are struggling to pay the bills. The devastating effects of the GOP Tax Scam won’t help them out. The bill rushed through Congress in December by Republicans will end up raising taxes on 86 million middle-class families and give 83% of its benefits to the wealthiest 1%.

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Congressman Bobby L. Rush, members of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee, led all Illinois Democrats in the House of Representatives on a letter asking Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner to work with them to lower health care costs and expand health care access across the state.

Today, Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection (DCCP) Ranking Member Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL) and Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ) led the eight Democratic members of the DCCP subcommittee on a letter to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Commissioner Terrell McSweeny and Acting Chairman Maureen Ohlhausen regarding the FTC’s investigation into whether Facebook failed to adequately protect the privacy of consumers.
