Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip and member of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, released the following statement in response to a report by an independent team of experts investigating the assassination of indigenous and labor rights activist Berta Caceres in Honduras.

“Berta Caceres was murdered in cold blood almost two years ago, and justice has yet to be served.

Today, Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) and Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Subcommittee Ranking Member Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) sent a letter to the leaders of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee opposing the nomination of Ms. Dana Baiocco to serve on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Sens. John Thune (R-SD) and Bill Nelson (D-FL), Chair and Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, will hold a hearing on Ms. Baiocco’s nomination tomorrow.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), and Louise Slaughter (NY-25) sent a letter to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb requesting additional information regarding his decision to allow Essure—a dangerous medical device—to stay on the market despite an ongoing post-market study to investigate prevalent negative health outcomes for women.

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip and a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement on the passage of the GOP's FY2018 Budget Resolution:

"The Republican Budget passed today paves the way for trillions of dollars in tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires, and corporations – paid for by middle-class families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Under the Republican tax plan, 1.9 million Illinoisans would no longer be able to claim the state and local tax deduction. Nationwide, 47 million Americans in middle-class households making between $50,000 and $150,000 would see an increase in their taxes.

Washington, D.C.- Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), along with CPC Healthcare Taskforce Chair Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), sent the attached letter to President Trump, expressing strong opposition to reports that former Eli Lilly executive Alex Azar is under consideration as a nominee for Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
