WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Chief Deputy Whip and Ranking Member on the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement on the FTC’s proposed ban on Facebook monetizing children’s data:

WASHINGTON — This week, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Sean Casten (IL-06), and Don Beyer (VA-08) are re-introducing bicameral legislation to protect consumers from energy market manipulation. The Energy Consumer Protection Act of 2023 would provide the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) with additional authority to go after traders that repeatedly manipulate electricity and natural gas markets. Companion legislation was introduced in the Senate by U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) 

WASHINGTON – In advance of President Biden’s meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) led 13 of their colleagues in a bipartisan letter to President Biden calling on him to raise concerns over the worsening human rights crisis in the Philippines.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Chief Deputy Whip and Ranking Member on the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, joined six of her colleagues in sending a letter to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, reiterating concerns about the impact that including skewed digital trade rules in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) will have on the U.S. government’s ability to promote competition, regulate AI, and protect consumer and worker privacy. The lawmakers are also urging USTR to prioritize transparency as they continue to negotiate IPEF.

Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Deb Fischer (R-NE), introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Railroad Employee Equity and Fairness (REEF) Act, which would remove sequestration constraints on the unemployment insurance program for railroad employees and ensure that they get the benefits they are entitled to.
