Comprehensive reproductive health care, including safe, legal, and accessible abortion, is a human right. My bill, the Abortion is Health Care Everywhere Act, will finally repeal the racist, harmful Helms Amendment.

The Trump Administration’s rule would impose unnecessary and onerous burdens on insurers and consumers with the ultimate goal of eliminating abortion coverage in the Affordable Care Act marketplace and denying consumers their right to comprehensive health insurance. This rule would, for example, require that insurance companies send a separate bill for abortion care and require consumers to pay a separate bill from their premium for abortion care. The rule could impact as many as three million people across the United States.

Too many women have received an ‘all clear’ after a mammogram only to discover later that cancer was hidden by their dense breast tissue. Women with dense breasts are 4-5 times more likely to get breast cancer than those without dense breast tissue.

We must strengthen access to additional testing, to ensure that women with dense breasts can know for certain that they are cancer-free. I'm a proud cosponsor of Rep. Rosa DeLauro's Find It Early Act to ensure all health insurance plans cover screening and diagnostic breast imaging.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, voted to protect women's reproductive rights with H.R. 3755, the Women's Health Protection Act. As the United States faces a surreal attack on Roe V. Wade and the bodily autonomy of women on a national level, this legislation will directly combat recent passage of state legislation seeking to effectively outlaw abortion.
