WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Chief Deputy Whip and Ranking Member on the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, led 32 of her colleagues in reintroducing the bipartisan Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act. WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Ranking Member on the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, U.S. Representative Tony Cárdenas (CA-29), and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) led a group of lawmakers in raising alarm over the effectiveness of recall efforts for the deadly Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper and probed Fisher-Price’s parent company, Mattel, about its actions to remove the inclined sleepers from the market after the product was linked to more infant deaths.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), and Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today are leading 70 lawmakers in calling on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to implement reforms to Medicare Advantage (MA) to improve health care for seniors and people with disabilities. Unlike traditional Medicare, MA plans are administered by private insurers and in recent years have been found to be fraught with waste, fraud, and abuse, too often putting corporate interests over patient outcomes.

WASHINGTON – As Republicans threaten cuts to Social Security and other essential federal programs, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Val Hoyle (OR-04), along with U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA),  are introducing legislation that would expand Social Security benefits by $2,400 a year and ensure Social Security is fully funded for the next 75 years – all without raising taxes by one penny on over 93% of American households that make $250,000 or less.

As we enter the second month of the Medicare Advantage open enrollment period, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Mark Pocan (WI-02), and Ro Khanna (CA-17), are reintroducing the Save Medicare Act. This bill renames so-called “Medicare Advantage” plans, prohibits private insurers from using “Medicare” in plan titles or advertisements, and imposes significant fines for any insurer that engages in this deceptive practice.

And it is a day when the international community honors the memories of the millions of lives lost to the terrible atrocities of the Holocaust.
