Today, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, introduced legislation to combat the online sale of stolen, counterfeit, and dangerous consumer products by requiring verification of third-party sellers on online retail marketplaces. The Integrity, Notification, and Fairness in Online Retail Marketplaces for Consumers (INFORM Consumers) Act directs online platforms that allow for third-party sellers of consumer products to authenticate the identity of high-volume third-party sellers, which will provide consumers with much-needed information and also prevent organized retail crime. The bill will also ensure that consumers can see basic identification and contact information for high-volume third-party sellers of consumer products on online marketplaces.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last month, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, and Congressman Brian Mast (FL-18) introduced a resolution, H.Res. 1004, to designate today, July 22, 2020, as "Glioblastoma Awareness Day." Glioblastoma is the most aggressive, difficult to treat and deadly brain tumor that results in the death of 10,000 Americans every year.

EVANSTON, IL - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, joined with over 100 of her House colleagues in sending a letter to President Donald J. Trump urging his administration to extend federal unemployment insurance benefits, which are set to run out at the end of July without action by the White House and U.S. Senate.

The CARES Act extended unemployment insurance by providing an additional $600 weekly federal unemployment benefit for those who lost their job due to the coronavirus pandemic. While the House subsequently passed The Heroes Act that extended unemployment insurance through January 31, 2021, the U.S. Senate has failed to act.
