WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, applauded the advancement of H.R. 1754, the Horseracing Integrity Act, after a vote today by the full committee to send the legislation to the U.S. House floor. The legislation was introduced by Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20).

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, Congressman William Lacy Clay (D-MO), Chair of the Housing, Community Development and Insurance Subcommittee, and Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) recently sent a letter to the Government Accountability Office requesting a report on the availability of affordable, accessible housing in the twenty-five largest metropolitan areas in the United States.

Specifically, this request directs GAO to explore:

WASHINGTON – Last Friday, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, and Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC), a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, introduced the Consumer Product Safety Inspection Enhancement Act, H.R. 8134. This bill would give the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) the power to prevent unsafe and counterfeit products from entering the United States, protecting consumers in the United States.

Durbin (D-IL), and other Democratic members of the Illinois delegation urged Illinois' leading health insurers to provide financial relief to Illinois individuals, families, and small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. According to recent reports, the nation's leading health insurers are experiencing unprecedented profits as enrollees continue to pay premiums while forgoing medical care during the pandemic.

WASHINGTON – Today, the Task Force on Aging & Families, led by Co-Chair Doris Matsui (D-CA) along with Rep. Deb Haaland (D-NM), demanded in a letter that USPS Postmaster General DeJoy immediately reverse harmful policies that have delayed the delivery of social security checks and jeopardized the financial security of senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. EVANSTON, IL – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, voted in favor of H.R. 8015, the Delivering for America Act. The bill passed by a vote of 257-150. Schakowsky issued the following statement after the vote:

"Today, I was proud to vote YES on the Delivering for America Act. This bill requires the USPS to maintain the operations and protocols in place at the beginning of this year – Jan. 1, 2020. It will also provide a boost of $25B in funding for the U.S. Postal Service.
