WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, cheered the passage of seven bills out of the full Energy and Commerce Committee which had moved through her subcommittee. The legislative bills deal with artificial intelligence, senior and pandemic scams, and consumer product safety.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, applauded the advancement of H.R. 1754, the Horseracing Integrity Act, after a vote today by the full committee to send the legislation to the U.S. House floor. The legislation was introduced by Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20).

EVANSTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, spoke with students at Niles North High School in Civics and Advanced Placement (AP) Government classes. She heard about their experiences during this pandemic and answered their questions on government and politics, and the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their teacher, Pankaj Sharma, was previously recognized with the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016.

WASHINGTON – Last Friday, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, and Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC), a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, introduced the Consumer Product Safety Inspection Enhancement Act, H.R. 8134. This bill would give the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) the power to prevent unsafe and counterfeit products from entering the United States, protecting consumers in the United States.

EVANSTON, IL – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, voted in favor of H.R. 8015, the Delivering for America Act. The bill passed by a vote of 257-150. Schakowsky issued the following statement after the vote:

"Today, I was proud to vote YES on the Delivering for America Act. This bill requires the USPS to maintain the operations and protocols in place at the beginning of this year – Jan. 1, 2020. It will also provide a boost of $25B in funding for the U.S. Postal Service.
