WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, introduced the Franchisee Freedom Act. This legislation ensures that small business owners who enter into franchise agreements with big corporations will be afforded the opportunity to address claims against the franchisor, putting them on a level playing field.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, introduced the Food Chemical Reassessment Act of 2021(FCRA) to require the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regularly study and reassess chemicals used in food, many of which have not been reevaluated for safety in decades. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) joined Schakowsky in introducing the legislation.

Fans are incredibly frustrated by how hard its become to buy event tickets. With every ticketing debacle, from Beyonce to Taylor Swift, their frustration grows. Rep. Gus Bilirakis and I proudly introduced the TICKET Act to put an end to the chaos. We are looking forward to further engagement from stakeholders as we continue to advance this legislation for the benefit of fans and artists. Consumers deserve to be protected from fraudulent tickets, surprise costs, and excessive fees.

Today, U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, introduced legislation to combat the online sale of stolen, counterfeit, and dangerous consumer products by requiring verification of third-party sellers on online retail marketplaces. The Integrity, Notification, and Fairness in Online Retail Marketplaces for Consumers (INFORM Consumers) Act directs online platforms that allow for third-party sellers of consumer products to authenticate the identity of high-volume third-party sellers, which will provide consumers with much-needed information and also prevent organized retail crime. The bill will also ensure that consumers can see basic identification and contact information for high-volume third-party sellers of consumer products on online marketplaces.

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the House Democratic Task Force on Aging and Families, reintroduced the Stop Unfair Medicaid Recoveries Act. This legislation would repeal the federal mandate that requires state Medicaid programs go after families and estates for repayment of Medicaid long-term care services.

Schakowsky announced the package along with her colleagues Reps. Doris Matsui, Lizzie Fletcher and Lisa Blunt Rochester earlier this year.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05), Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) and Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) are urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct new public hearings and issue a new environmental impact study (EIS) of the O’Hare Modernization Program in response to increased noise pollution and questions raised over the hearings process.
