EVANSTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced the projects in her district for which she has submitted funding requests. Earlier this year, Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro announced that the annual funding process would once again allow Members of Congress to request funding for specific projects.

“Parents and caregivers cannot go back to work, grow our economy, and build better lives for their families unless they know their children are cared for,” said Congresswoman Schakowsky. “The American Rescue Plan included an expansion of the Child Tax Credit, which will provide financial support for families to help them afford childcare, food, clothing, and other daily expenses. This program is cutting child poverty in half across the nation, and raising more than 134,000 Chicagoland children out of poverty.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (October 27, 2011) — Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) joined other members of Congress, national religious leaders and current Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients at a Safeway supermarket to kick off the week-long national Fighting Poverty with Faith Food Stamp Challenge. For a week Rep. Schakowsky will live on $31.50 worth of food, the average weekly benefit for a food stamp recipient.
