WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the Inflation Reduction Act:

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, Maritime, Freight and Ports, requested a staff briefing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on how the agency is working to address its own June 15, 2022 report showing that Tesla vehicles were implicated in numerous crashes, including crashes involving serious injuries and five known deaths.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI), Chair of the Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee, introduced the Ensuring Friendly Skies for Passengers Act. This bill empowers the FTC to enforce antitrust violations and unfair or deceptive practices by airlines.

WASHINGTON – On Friday, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Co-Chair of the House Democratic Task Force on Aging and Families, introduced the Infrastructure Modernization Project Related to the Overall Enhancement of Nursing Homes Act (IMPROVE Nursing Homes Act). This legislation would create a grant program to convert traditional nursing homes into small-house nursing homes with person-centered cultures.
