WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04), Ilhan Omar (MN-05), and Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-07) led 16 of their colleagues in a letter urging United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken to ensure that the U.S. Embassy in Honduras is continually engaging the Honduran government to combat corruption while protecting the environmentalists in the Bajo Aguan region from future violence and attacks, and ensuring that their demands are fully and fairly attended to. This includes the definitive cancelation of the Los Pinares mining licenses in the Carlos Escaleras Botaderos Mountain National Park.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) introduced the Working for Immigrant Safety and Empowerment (WISE) Act to protect immigrant survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, and gender-based violence. The bill would ensure that immigrants have access to protections intended by the bipartisan Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Trafficking Victim Protection Act (TVPA), and other federal and state laws. The bill would also ensure survivors pursuing relief are not detained or deported before their applications are fully adjudicated.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Chief Deputy Whip and the Ranking Member of the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, led her Democratic colleagues on the subcommittee in sending a letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raising concerns about data privacy shortfalls and HIPAA violations related to the use and transfer of health data gathered from users of Amazon Clinic. This letter comes at the same time Amazon announced the expansion of its virtual clinic, which will now be available in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Chief Deputy Whip and Ranking Member of the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and U.S. Representative Kathy Castor (FL-14), Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, reintroduced the Online Consumer Protection Act (OCPA). This legislation addresses the shortcomings of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which, along with overly broad court rulings on it, have failed to hold online platforms accountable to consumers.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) led a letter to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) calling for stronger rules to protect infants from dangerous loungers, infant pillows, and other sleeping products. The letter highlights the dangers of the Boppy Newborn Lounger, which was recalled in September 2021 and has been linked to ten infant deaths, and loungers manufactured by Leacho, Inc., which have been linked to two infant deaths.
