We have a right to the protection of personal information. As our economy and technology continue to change, so does the face of privacy rights. Americans should feel confident that the purchases they make, the books they read, the places they travel, sensitive medical information and the legal activities they participate in within their own homes can be kept personal and private. I will continue to speak out in favor of strong privacy protections and to guarantee that individuals control what information they divulge and the nature of that information.

In just his first two years in office, President Biden has created over 12 million jobs, lowered prescription drug costs for seniors, invested in our climate, and so much more. At 3.4%, the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in over 50 years. We are bringing strong, good-paying union jobs back to America. Last week’s State of the Union proved that our best days are yet to come.

“When he acquired Twitter, Elon Musk promised to eliminate bots, build a subscription service, and strictly enforce Twitter’s standards for illegal content. After only two months at the helm, it is clear he has failed in all three areas.
This past week, we held leadership elections for the 118th Congress. I would like to congratulate Minority Leader-designate Hakeem Jeffries, Whip-designate Katherine Clark, and Chairman-designate Pete Aguilar. I have the utmost confidence in our new leaders, who truly epitomize the great diversity of our nation.
On Thursday, my treasured friend, Nancy Pelosi, announced that she will be leaving House leadership, but will remain in Congress representing her beloved city of San Francisco. This week marks 16 years since I was able to second her nomination as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
As we head towards the end of the year, and the end of the 117th Congress, there are still many things left to accomplish. I am looking forward to closing out the year strong as we continue to deliver results for the American people.
This week, I discuss the hearing I chaired in my Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee on the American Data Privacy and Protection Act. In addition, I provide an update on bipartisan gun safety negotiations in the Senate. I also reflect on the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and I commemorate Juneteenth.
