WASHINGTON—Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Rep. Ilhan Omar's (D-MN) bill, the Combating International Islamophobia Act, 219-212. Hours earlier, the Biden Administration announced the President’s support for the legislation.  The bill requires the U.S. State Department to create a Special Envoy for monitoring and combating Islamophobia, and include state-sponsored Islamophobic violence and impunity in the Department's annual human rights reports. The creation of the Special Envoy will help policymakers better understand the interconnected, global problem of anti-Muslim bigotry, and will establish a comprehensive strategy for U.S. leadership in combatting Islamophobia worldwide.

This bill would help ensure a rapid shift away from fossil fuel to clean renewable energy.

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, was joined by Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA) in introducing the FTC Whistleblower Act of 2021. The bill would protect whistleblowers who disclose wrongdoing at their current and former employers who fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Disclosure could include unlawful violations of consumer protection and anti-trust laws and regulations. This act would protect whistleblowers from retaliation and incentivize their reporting.
