This legislation ensures that small business owners who enter into franchise agreements with big corporations will be afforded the opportunity to address claims against the franchisor, putting them on a level playing field.

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04), Danny K. Davis (IL-07), Bobby Rush (IL-01), Robin Kelly (IL-02), Mike Quigley (IL-05) and Marie Newman (IL-03) announced a letter they sent to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and the Acting Director of the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) asking for the prompt release of immigration detainees in Illinois facilities. The Illinois Way Forward Act was signed into law last year and aims to end immigration detention within the state while expanding protections for immigrant communities.

WASHINGTON - This week, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), David Joyce (R-OH), and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) introduced a bipartisan resolution recognizing National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) Week. Since 2000, the last week of January has been uplifted as "National CRNA Week," a time to honor the heroic work and expertise of CRNAs and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs). The over 59,000 practicing nursing anesthetists in the U.S. devote countless hours each year to patient care and safety. This resolution honors CRNA's hard work and commitment to the well-being of Americans.

The Red-Purple Bypass, which began service in November 2021, is the first major improvement to be delivered to CTA customers as part of the historic $2.1 billion Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase One project. The largest reconstruction project in CTA’s history, RPM is modernizing and replacing 100-year-old rail structures and stations to improve rail service reliability, comfort and convenience for CTA customers. The new bypass is the first new, permanent mainline track to be added to CTA since the Orange Line opened in 1993.

Lightfoot, along with U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09), Robin Kelly (D-IL-02), Mike Quigley (D-IL-05), and Marie Newman (D-IL-03) announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has allocated $1.5 million in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to the Chicago Shoreline Storm Damage Reduction Project.

Today, Congresswomen Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) introduced the Banning Surveillance Advertising Act, legislation that prohibits advertising networks and facilitators from using personal data to target advertisements, with the exception of broad location targeting to a recognized place, such as a municipality. The bill also prohibits advertisers from targeting ads based on protected class information, such as race, gender, and religion, and personal data purchased from data brokers. The bill makes explicit that contextual advertising, which is advertising based on the content a user is engaging with, is allowable.
