WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, introduced the Food Chemical Reassessment Act of 2021(FCRA) to require the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regularly study and reassess chemicals used in food, many of which have not been reevaluated for safety in decades. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) joined Schakowsky in introducing the legislation.

WASHINGTON— Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-9), Paul Tonko (NY-20), Daniel T. Kildee (MI-5), Gwen Moore (D-MI-4) and Henry Cuellar (TX-28) led a group of more than 100 members in the House of Representatives today, including the entire Democratic House Illinois delegation, on a letter calling for Congressional leadership to prioritize funding to remove ALL of America's estimated 10 million lead drinking water service lines and components currently in use as part of any major infrastructure legislation moving through the chamber.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the House passed legislation by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, and Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29), Vice-Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, to restore the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) 13(b) consumer protection powers to return money to defrauded consumers. In April, the Supreme Court took away a major tool from the FTC's ability to protect consumers from fraudsters and scammers.

“Parents and caregivers cannot go back to work, grow our economy, and build better lives for their families unless they know their children are cared for,” said Congresswoman Schakowsky. “The American Rescue Plan included an expansion of the Child Tax Credit, which will provide financial support for families to help them afford childcare, food, clothing, and other daily expenses. This program is cutting child poverty in half across the nation, and raising more than 134,000 Chicagoland children out of poverty.”

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, led a letter to the German Ambassador urging the nation to reconsider it continued opposition to a waiver of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Trade-Related Intellectual Property (TRIPS waiver). Specifically, the group is requesting a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who will be in Washington this week to meet with President Biden. Schakowsky was joined by Representatives Earl Blumenauer, Rosa DeLauro, Lloyd Doggett, Andy Levin, Adriano Espaillat, Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, Barbara Lee, and Angie Craig.

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Congressman Danny K. Davis, Chair of the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee, recently introduced H.R. 4186, the Patriotic Corporations of America Act. This legislation would require that federal contractors prioritize American workers, reduce economic inequality, advance race and gender equality, support environmental sustainability, and pay their fair share of U.S. taxes.
